Napa Merlot Adastra Merlot from the 2004 vintage is a top rated wine that was Oak barrel aged for over 19 months. For the first time, the Carneros estate-grown Adastra Merlot is blended with seven percent Napa estate-grown Syrah, creating a fascinating and substantial wine. Cherry-violet in color with a nose of raspberries, cherries and Bourneville chocolate. On the palate you sense the raspberries, cherries, vanilla, black licorice, clove stick, with a slightly meaty finish. This organic and great tasting Napa Merlot has won some of the highest ratings.

The name Adastra is taken from the Latin saying per aspera ad astra, "through striving to the stars." Adastra strives to produce intense, complex wines that capture the essence of its twenty-acre, CCOF-certified organic vineyard -- a unique combination of fog, soil, grapes and stars in the Napa Carneros. Family-owned, Adastra is run by Chris Thorpe and son-in-law Edwin Richards.

RATINGS: 92 points - Wine Enthusiast
"An interesting, off-beat Merlot that successfully marches to a different drummer. There’s a leathery, meaty quality to the blackberry and cherry fruit flavors that probably comes from the Syrah in the blend. It’s also bone dry and fairly rigid in tannins. From an organic-certified vineyard."
