| Syrah Grenache wine Domaine Salvat Tradition is produced from the Cote de Roussillon vineyard's prime red Syrah, Grenache and Carignan grapes, from the harvest of 2003. This french red wine is 80% Syrah, 10% Grenache and 10% Carignan. Domaine Salvat Tradition 2003 has a shiny ruby color with a complex nose with notes of spices and a fruity depth. Upon opening the fruit is more present, with scents of black berries. The palate is soft and spicy with notes of red fruits. The tannins are melted with a finish that is marked by a hint of pleasant acidity. It goes very well with grilled red meat. Drink now through end of 2010.
Known as the the sunniest vineyard in France, Domaine Salvat is highly respected in this area. Jean-Philippe Salvat is well known for his wine-making skills. Domaine Salvat is split between land at Villeneuve, overlooking the river Tet, inland from Perpignan, and vineyards at Saint-Paul de Fenouillet in the upper Agly Valley. Family owned for over a century, the area was created in 1860 by the purchase of land by Auguste Salvat on the territory of Taïhac. Today the Villeneuve A River vineyard enjoys a hot, dry climate that is typically Mediterranean. The vines are rooted in a stony, clay-siliceous limestone terraces averages. At Saint Martin de Fenouillet, geology is more upset with clay and limestone soils in the upper part, followed by granitic sand on the bottom. The climate is cooler than the Villeneuve River area. Cleanly made wines with fresh taste is what Savat is recognized for.
