Garnacha wine AV 14 Clos D'Englora Montsant 2002 is an excellent Spanish red wine from the Montsant (Tarragona) area, that is well-balanced with a long finish. That is why this Garnacha wine received a 93 Rating from wine critic Robert Parker. It comes through on the nose with chocolate, deep cherry and pepper notes. AV 14 has firm big tannins that coat the mouth along with medium acidity. Cherry, raspberry and blackberry followed by cassis makes the mouthfeel a lush dark fruit mix. Minerals come through on the finish and as this Garnacha wine opens the oak starts to become more apparent. A blend of 35% Garnacha, 20% Syrah, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon with small amounts of Samsó, Merlot and Tempranillo. AV 14 is aged 14 months in oak. It's a powerful and full-bodied deep black cherry colored wine with a strong floral nose.

AV 14 Clos D'Englora 2002, produced by Baronia del Montsant in Cornudella Montsant, Spain is considered one of the top Spanish wines by many critics. It is always bragged about, and with good reason. The cellars of the Baronia Del Montsant are located in the beautiful town of Cornudella Montsant (Tarragona), close to the La Priorat region. The three partners that own the vineyard landed on a hillside in the region to realize their dream of developing unique and exclusive wines. Clos d'Englora was the result, a Garnacha wine that is not like others. It is unique and produced for those with educated and enlightened palates. To achieve the wine's personality, the vineyard is located on a land area with many streams and with very special characteristics. This vineyard is classified today as one of the best locations in the world for the production of red wines. Located in the Tarragona-subzona Falset, it is the perfect area to cultvate the Garnacha grapes, and Clos D'Englora proves it through high ratings and praise from wine drinkers throughout the world.

RATINGS: Silver Medal - Mondiale du Bruxelles Competition.

93 points - Robert Parker - Wine Advocate
"A product of Spain, the Av 14 is a tranquil blend of Black Garnacha, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah. A huge floral perfume reveals notions of blueberries, graphite, black raspberries, and minerals. Powerful, complex, full-bodied flavors cascade over the palate with purity, elegance, and symmetry. This stunning wine will last for 6-10 more years" (2014 - 2018).

AV 14 Clos D'Englora 2002 Information:
The Clos Englora´s name comes from one of the emblematic tops of the Montsant´s range, which tops highs more than 1000 mts above sea level. The AV name is an abstract and personal representation of the mentioned top. The AV14 nomenclature means that the grapes used come from “aged vineyards“, and the number 14 is the time that the wine remains in oak barrels.
GRAPES VARIETIES:
35% Red Grenache
22% Cariñena
13% Merlot
18% Cabernet Sauvignon
8% Syrah
2% Ull de Llebre
2% Cabernet Franc.
VINIFICATION:
Grape Harvest Date: From 10 to 28 October 2002
The grapes are picked by hand in 14kg boxes, and once in the winery, the most healthy and optimally matured clusters are manually selected. They are destemed, lightly pressed and gravity carried (without pump) to the different fermentatition tanks. The grape juice of each variety, ferments and macerates itself apart from its lees at a controlled temperature of 28-29º C, using for this process bourdeux barrels of 225 lt of different origin and toast degree. During this process 3 “pigeages” are daily made in order to extract the “sweet” tanins from the grapes along with their flavor and colour potential. Later on, the malolactic fermentation is done in order to increase “mouth thickness” and stabilize the wine microbiologically. The aging period is 14 months for black Grenache and Cariñena, and 20 months for the rest of varieties.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
The Clos Englora AV14 is not submitted to any finning treatment, neither stabilization nor filtration. 86% of the barrels used in the aging process come from the Allier, Tronçais and Centre French forests and the remaining 14% from the American Oaks of Tenesse area. The toast degrees are 92% medium, 5% medium plus and the remaining 3% high toast. The barrels age is 0 and 1 year. The grapes for this elaboration come from aged vineyards: 70 years old Grenache, 50 years old Carignen and about 25 years old the remaining varieties. The yield per hectare is very low: 0.5 kg per plant in Grenache and Carignen 1.5 – 2 kg in the rest of varieties. Regarding the culture works, very strict winter and spring prunnings have been conducted along with a 30% clusters´s clear up during summer season to increase the grapes quality. Alcohol: 13%
