BEST PINOT NOIR - DOMAINE MICHELE & PATRICE RION NUITS SAINT GEORGES 1ER CRU CLOS DES ARGILLIERES 2003 - 750 ML - FRANCE
Best Pinot Noir is what most say about the Domaine Michele & Patrice Rion Nuits Saint Georges 1er Cru Clos des Argillieres 2003 wine. This delightful Gran Cru red wine is one of France's best Pinot Noir. It comes from the vineyard that Patrice Rion got as part of his share of the family domaine (Daniel Rion). It lies just across the road from his new cellar and home, and he sees it every day, so it is no surprise it is perfectly tended. Domaine Michele & Patrice Rion Nuits Saint Georges Gran Cru Clos des Argillieres 2003 evolves after you open it. It has creamy red berry and fresh cherries with sweet vanilla aromas. The taste follows the aromas and shows pretty dark floral and earthy nuances with nice acidity and chewy tannins. This collectable wine gets better by the day. Drink by 2025.

Domaine Michèle and Patrice Rion, a small family-run winery located just below the slopes of Nuits-Saint-Georges, was created in 1990 by Patrice and his wife Michèle, starting with only one hectare of vines. Patrice Rion has been making wines since 1977. Over the years he increased his holding to 3 hectares in 5 different appellations. In September 2000 Patrice stopped making wines at his family's Domaine Daniel Rion to focus on his own vineyards. Patrice's hands-on process from budbreak through harvest guarantees the best quality fruit. He selects vineyards on good soils and uses vines 25 to 65 years old for the quality of their fruit: small, with thick skins to help obtain a deeply colored and complex wine. The vineyards are organic and avoid synthetic insecticides and pesticides. To keep a natural fauna balance, only organic fertilizers are used. To maintain quality he limits the crop size with pruning and harvests the grapes by hand which are brought to the winery in small airy boxes. Patrice wants balanced and completely natural wines so he uses indigenous yeasts, no enzymes and no acidification. Typically he cold macerates for 8 days with total cuvaison lasting 21 days, followed by a settling of the lees for 48 hours. His winery has thick insulation which keeps the temperature at 15c in the cellar and naturally consistant humidity guaranteeing the best conditions for aging the wines.

"Highly complex red and black pinot fruit that is both seductive and very spicy with notes of tea, anise, clove and cinnamon followed by flavors that are a lovely mix of elegance and muscle with taut yet rounded flavors that are beautifully well-balanced and persistent. A really lovely wine."
