Monterey Chardonnay De Tierra Coast View Chardonnay 2005 is rich and fleshy, with creamy tropical fruit, great minerality and a taut core of acid. This 2005 Monterey Chardonnay wine has a wonderful texture and a long finish. De Tierra's winemaker barrel-ferments the wine at a cold temperature, then ages it for nine months in French oak, 40 percent of it new barrels. One hundred percent of the blend goes through malolactic fermentation, but the acidity is high enough that the wine hasn�t lost its freshness. The Chardonnay fruit for this wine is sourced by De Tierra from the highest vineyard in Monterey County. This mountainous and chalky site gives a stunning expression of the chardonnay grape. This Monterey wine is cold barrel fermented in 100% French Oak barrels to retain the beautiful high toned qualities of the chardonnay. Full fermentation allows for the development of a rich and flavorful wine that has richness to complement the high natural acidity. The wine is big enough to stand up to rich dishes, with sufficient acidity to cut through that richness.

De Tierra Vineyards is a small wine maker located in Corral De Tierra, a valley situated between the Santa Lucia Highlands and Carmel Valley in Monterey County, California. The vineyard is organically farmed to accentuate the terroir of this most unusual area. This little valley has a combination of very loamy soils with with some Monterey shale and high organic matter content. Using organic farming methods and prime grapes, this wine maker is considered one of the finest vineyards in the Monterey region.
